چکیده

The recovery of metal values and safe disposal of spent catalyst is gaining interest due to both its hazardous nature and increased regulation associated with disposal methods. Prior to the recovery of the valuable metals, removal of entrained deposits limit the diffusion of lixiviate resulting in low recovery of metals must be taken into consideration. Therefore, petroleum refinery spent catalyst was subjected to acetone washing and roasting at 500C. The treated samples were investigated for metals bioleaching using Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans in batch reactors and the leaching efficiencies were compared. It was found out that acetone washed spent catalysts results in better metal recovery compare to roasted spent. About 83% Ni, 20% Al, 50% Mo and 73% V were leached using the acetone washed spent catalyst. In both the cases, Ni, V and Mo was high compared to Al. Keywords—Acetone wash, At. ferrooxidans, Bioleaching, Calcined, Metal recovery.

Comparative proteomics of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans grown in the presence and absence of uranium.

Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans is an acidophile that thrives in metal-contaminated environments and tolerates high levels of uranium. To gain a better understanding of the processes involved in U(VI) resistance, comparative proteomics was used. The proteome of A. ferrooxidans was grown in the presence and absence of 0.5 mM U(VI); expression of 17 proteins was upregulated and one was downregulat...

Bioleaching and Kinetic Investigation of WPCBs by A. Ferrooxidans, A. Thiooxidans and their Mixtures

Bioleaching was used to mobilize Cu, Zn and Ni from waste printed circuit boards (WPCBs) and eliminate hazardous metal species from these wastes. Pulp density (PD) and medium culture are two effective factors which have been optimized in this paper. The bacteria Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans (A. ferrooxidans) and Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans (A. thiooxidans) and their mixture were grown and a...

Bacterial consortium for copper extraction from sulphide ore consisting mainly of chalcopyrite

The mining industry is looking forward for bacterial consortia for economic extraction of copper from low-grade ores. The main objective was to determine an optimal bacterial consortium from several bacterial strains to obtain copper from the leach of chalcopyrite. The major native bacterial species involved in the bioleaching of sulphide ore (Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, Acidithiobacillus t...
